![]() ![]() Plans are progressing to create the first history Museum in northern Montague County, the new Museum at Nocona. Located on 3 acres donated by the Benton-Whiteside Ranch facing U.S. Highway 82 (Map), the museum will focus on the unique history of northern Montague County, including the era of Native American settlement and trade, early outside immigration, trail drives, ranching and farming, historic landscape, transprotation, oil and the development of the leather industry. Designed to be constructed in phases, the first phase of the new Museum will include permanent and interactive exhibits in the exhibit galleries, a regional tourist center with spectacular landscaping, a research library and offices for the Museum, and the Nocona Chamber of Commerce. The gift shop will be conductive to offering arts and crafts made by local artisans, souvenirs and examples of the fine leather goods produced by businesses in the region. The Museum's collection committee is seeking long-term loans of good-quality, original materials that document the history of north Montague County. Artifacts, photographs, original letters, early books - all these materials are suitable for the museum, which is pledged to preserve them for the educational enrichment of our future generations.
