Each year, the Texas Historical Commission selects up to five Texas cities and urban areas as official Texas Main Street cities. Selected communities are eligible to receive a range of services.

We have a core group of volunteers that have joined together to form Discover Nocona to reach the goal of obtaining the "Main Street" designation. However, we need more volunteers. Volunteers are crucial to the success of Discover Nocona programs and initiatives. As a volunteer, you will have opportunities to experience roles outside your everyday job, develop new leadership skills, meet new people and develop important business contacts. Discover Nocona volunteers are real players in helping develop and execute strategic policy initiatives, plan events and in supporting outreach and business development programs.

Committee meeting schedules vary, but generally committees meet no more than once a month for an hour. Volunteers are expected to:

• Actively participate in committee role as assigned by chair
  
• Attend any event they help organize
  
• Complete assignments or projects detailed in the Discover Nocona program of work
  
• Attend scheduled meetings or contact the chair when unable to attend
  
• Support and represent Discover Nocona in a professional manner
  
• Review relevant materials before meetings and be prepared to report on assigned task
